Josep Suñer-Oriola was born in Valencia, Spain. He studied percussion, harmony, analysis and counterpoint at Valencia Conservatory, and Composition and conducting with Maestro Julio Ribelles.

He has played as a guest with the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, the Valencia Symphony Orchestra, the Castellón Municipal Band, the Barcelona Municipal Band, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, the Catalunya Chamber Orchestra and the Lyonnais Orchestra of Lyon.
He has recorded for the TVE, the RNE, the TV3, the Catalunya Radio, the Radio 9, the Radio France and the Süddeustschen Rundfunks. He has played at the Music Festivals of Barcelona, Santander, Nimes, Luxembourg, Maastricht, Ludwigshafen, Innsbruck, Paris, Edinburgh & London.
As a concertist, he played Alfred Reed's Concertino for Marimba & Winds premiere in Spain and he was invited, as a solist, to close the CXIII "Valencia International Contest of Bands" in 1998.

He has been player and teacher for the San Sebastian Municipal Band, the San Sebastian Conservatory, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and the Gran Teatro del Liceo Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona. Nowadays he is a percussionist in the Valencia Municipal Band and is the conductor of the Societat Musical Eslava d'Albuixech. His works are published by Catalana d'Edicions Musicals (Barcelona-Spain) and Blas-Basen (Tullinge-Sweden) and they are played in Europe, Australia and Japan. He is a member of COSICOVA, SGAE and WASBE. In 2006 he was invited by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and he is "Fennell Special Prize" in The First Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra Composition Competition.
